At IMA we’ve got a track-record of completing audits on small to large infrastructure projects. You can be sure that our team of assurance specialists are always keeping an eye on some of the most exciting local and international industry updates.  Here is an interesting project we have enjoyed reading about recently:

Over the holiday period, KiwiRail undertook an enormous project: to shut down trains over Christmas and work day and night to upgrade lines and progress new infrastructure. It ticked off quite an impressive number of items from its to-do list, including:

  • Laying 17,000m3 of ballast (the stones under the track)
  • Setting almost 4km of new formation (the bed for the lines)
  • Placing over 5km of new track
  • Installing new structures that allow trains to move around the networks

In total, the team responsible for carrying out this project carried out more than 155,000 hours of labour at 31 sites in Auckland. Work is progressing on extending the electrification of the Papakura to Pukekohe line, and putting in a new track from Grafton to Kingsland. At Britomart, new track was laid at the entrance and a huge concrete slab was poured.

Improving Auckland’s public transport network is a vital tool in our city’s efforts to reduce our carbon footprint, manage traffic, and keep up with the needs of our growing population.
